Earrings
Earrings in solid 9ct and 14ct gold — diamond studs, hoops and drops alongside gemstone, pearl and kids' styles. Never plated, never filled.
Two different collections living under one roof
This page covers every earring we make, and it is worth saying upfront that it holds two genuinely different products rather than one range with two names.
The first is diamond earrings — studs, hoops, drops and illusion settings built around a certified or lab grown stone. The second is solid gold earrings set with coloured gemstones, cultured pearls, or made for children — zircon-set huggies, birthstone studs, pearl studs, and a dedicated line of small stud earrings sized for kids. Both are solid 9ct or 14ct gold throughout; neither is plated or filled. What differs is the stone, the price point, and usually the occasion.
If you already know which side you want, go straight to diamond earrings. If you are still deciding, the rest of this page explains the difference.
The diamond side
Our diamond earrings collection runs from simple round brilliant studs from around £600 to statement pieces above £2,500. The most distinctive setting we offer is illusion — a faceted metal plate behind a small diamond that makes it read as a much larger stone from across a room. It is an honest technique, not a trick: nobody buying an illusion stud is told the diamond is bigger than it is, but the visual effect is real and it is why illusion settings are consistently among our best sellers at the lower end of the price range.
Beyond illusion, the diamond range covers plain studs (four-claw, six-claw and bezel), hoops in single, double and triple-row pavé, and drops for evening wear. Every stone is either certified natural or lab grown — the two are chemically identical, and lab grown is what makes a 2ct stud earring pair achievable at these prices rather than several times higher.
The gemstone, pearl and kids' side
The rest of this collection is solid gold jewellery that is not built around a diamond centre stone, and it exists for a different set of reasons: colour, price, and safety for younger wearers.
Gemstone and zircon-set earrings — huggie hoops, bezel-set studs, birthstone pieces — bring colour that a colourless diamond cannot, at a lower price point per piece, because coloured cubic zirconia and small natural gemstones cost a fraction of what an equivalent diamond does. Pearl studs use natural cultured pearls set in 9ct or 14ct gold — a genuinely different look from anything in the diamond range, and one of the few earring styles that reads as equally appropriate for a teenager and a grandmother.
The kids' line is deliberately separate: small stud earrings — ladybird, cherry, strawberry, heart, infinity — sized and set for children's ears. Because they are solid gold rather than plated, they do not react against sensitive young skin the way base-metal studs from a high-street chain often do, and they hold their colour through years of swimming, sport and general childhood wear.
9ct or 14ct — for earrings specifically
Gold carat matters slightly differently for earrings than for a ring. An earring rarely takes the daily knocks a ring does, so the durability argument for 9ct is weaker here — but 9ct is still the harder alloy and the more affordable one, and it is what we recommend for the kids' line and for hoops that see frequent handling (putting in and taking out is where an earring post actually wears).
14ct gives a warmer, richer colour and is our default recommendation for studs and drops worn for longer stretches without removal, where the extra gold content shows.
Studs, hoops, huggies and drops
- Studs — sit flush against the earlobe. The safest, most versatile format and where most of our diamond and gemstone pieces sit.
- Huggies — small hoops that hug close to the lobe. More secure than a full hoop for daily wear and popular in both the diamond and gemstone lines.
- Hoops — from single-row to triple-row pavé. The larger the hoop, the more the clasp matters; ours use click-lock fastenings rather than simple hinge closures.
- Drops — hang below the lobe. The most visible format from a distance, and where illusion settings are most effective.
Common questions
What is the difference between this collection and diamond earrings?
This page covers everything we make in earrings. Diamond earrings is the diamond-only cut of the same range, for anyone who already knows that is what they want.
Are the gemstones in the non-diamond pieces real?
Where a piece is listed as set with a natural gemstone or cultured pearl, it is real. Where a piece uses cubic zirconia, the listing says so — zircon gives the same clarity and sparkle as a diamond at a fraction of the cost, and it is a legitimate, honestly labelled choice rather than a substitute passed off as something else.
Are the kids' earrings safe for sensitive ears?
Yes. Because they are solid gold rather than plated or base metal, there is no nickel layer to cause the irritation common with cheaper children's jewellery.
Can I get a matching necklace or bracelet?
Often, yes. Our necklaces and pendants collections use the same gemstone and diamond lines, and a number of designs are available as coordinated sets. If you want an exact match that is not shown, commission it — the first conversation costs nothing.
Frequently asked questions
Are your earrings safe for sensitive ears?
Yes. Solid 9ct and 14ct gold is naturally hypoallergenic and nickel-safe, which makes it a common choice for sensitive or newly pierced ears — always check with your piercer for very fresh piercings.
What's the difference between screw-back and butterfly-back earrings?
Screw backs thread onto the post and stay more securely in place, which is why we use them on most stud designs; butterfly backs push-fit and are quicker to put on and take off day to day.
Do you sell earrings for children?
Yes, we stock a small kids' range in solid gold with secure, age-appropriate fastenings — see the earrings collection filters for children's styles.
Can diamond studs be upgraded to a bigger stone later?
On most solitaire and illusion-setting styles, yes — get in touch and we can quote a reset into a larger stone rather than starting again with a new pair.
